About Biofoam Alliance
Mission: Biofoam Alliance is an independent industry initiative dedicated to advancing the understanding, responsible development and adoption of bio-based foam worldwide.
Core Principles
- Science before marketing — Claims should be supported by recognised test methods, credible data and transparent sources.
- Education before promotion — The first responsibility is to explain what biofoam is — and what it is not.
- Transparency — Bio-based content, biodegradation claims, test conditions and certification scope should be clearly distinguished.
- Performance matters — Higher bio-based content does not automatically mean higher quality. Performance, safety, durability and fitness for use remain essential.
- Responsible end-of-life thinking — Bio-based feedstock alone does not resolve end-of-life impacts.
- Open, fair collaboration — Suppliers, manufacturers, brands, research organisations and even competitors may participate if they accept common evidence and conduct principles.
- International neutrality — The Alliance should not appear to be a national, regional or single-company marketing vehicle.
Kevin Lin, who is Taiwanese and founder of the CoolisT group, is a Founding Member and has supported the initial development of the Alliance. The platform is designed so that its credibility can stand independently of any single organisation. Participation does not require commercial alignment with any founding member.
What the Alliance Is Not
- A product website or sales channel.
- A pay-to-claim certification scheme.
- A platform for unsupported sustainability claims.
- An organisation that defines “good biofoam” solely by the highest bio-based percentage.
